THE Police and Crime Commissioner for West Mercia Police has welcomed proposals to better tackle serious crime.

PCC John Campion also welcomed improved victim support, as outlined by the Government in the Queen's Speech earlier this month.

Key priorities heard in the speech also included new laws requiring multi agency partnership to prevent serious crime, new legislation supporting victims of crime and their family and 'swift justice' for those charged with knife possession.

Mr Campion said he was happy with the commitments, as they aligned with his own personal views.

“The Government’s commitment shows positive progress for our policing and justice systems not only in West Mercia but nationwide," said Mr Campion.

"The improvements, particularly in relation to supporting victims of crimes and their families and preventing serious crime through multi agency collaboration are closely aligned to my own commitments to communities across West Mercia.

"I am pleased the new measures are being introduced and expect they will help to keep our communities safe.”
