BUILTH Wells Rugby Club is mourning the loss of an inspirational coach.

Dave Dixon, who died last week, was a stalwart of the Bulls’ set-up, coaching in the club’s junior section and being responsible for no fewer than eight of the club’s current first-team coming through the ranks.

A minute’s silence was also held in honour of Mr Dixon before the youth team’s game at Carmarthen Quinn’s at the weekend.

Club manager Simon John led the tributes.

Speaking to County Times Sport, Mr John said: ”We lost a fantastic club man in Dave Dixon.

“Dave always had time for everyone. A true legend of our proud club.”

He added: “Our prayers and thoughts go with his family at this sad time.”

Scores of tributes to Mr Dixon, and condolences, have also been left on the Bull’s Facebook page.

A club spokesman said: “It is with deep sadness to hear about the recent passing of Dave Dixon.

“Dave coached our Junior section for eight years with son Ricky, and took the Under 16’s into the Heart of Wales final where they beat Merthyr Tydfil Under 16’s side.

“Attended most of the home games for the first team each and every season.

“He’d only very recently fitted the new boiler in clubhouse, for no charge to the club.”

The spokesman added: “A truly wonderful man in every way, who always had time for everyone.

“Eight of the current first team, progressed through Dave’s junior sections, which is an amazing achievement by any Rugby Club’s standards.

“Our thoughts are with Dave’s family, at this very sad time.”
