PLANS have been put forward which could see a bed and breakfast in Wrexham turned into a care home.

The Grove Guest House is located on one of the main routes into the town on Chester Road.

Manchester-based company Northern Healthcare has applied to change the use of the 1930s property for residential care.

The plans show there would be a total of 19 bedrooms, along with a communal area, lounge, kitchen and office.

It also states there will be four full time staff members working there.

In an application to Wrexham Council, the firm said it did not intend to make any changes to the outside of the building as part of the proposals.

Representatives said: “The proposal is to change the use of the Grove Guest House to a residential care home on behalf of the local Clinical Commissioning Group and NHS.

“The existing car park will be for staff and visitors only as many of the residents will not be able to drive.

“We have a total of twelve car spaces and at maximum only six to eight will be utilized.

“We have intentionally decided not to change the external façade and keep as much of the original features as possible.

“The access to the site will not change from the original road access from Penymaes Avenue, which leads to the main road on the A5152 Chester Road.

“The proposal will not have a detrimental impact on the current parking allocation as this car park is often under utilized and our proposal will reduce the number of car parking spaces required due to the nature of the business.”

The application will be decided by the local authority at a later date.
