A MAN has died following a house fire in Wrexham.

Firefighters were called to Castle Mews in Holt at around 9.07pm on Tuesday night but the elderly man could not be saved.

Two appliances from Wrexham were mobilised to the incident. Crews used two sets of breathing apparatus and a hose reel jet to tackle the fire.

A spokesman for North Wales Fire and Rescue Service said that the body of a man, believed to be in his 80s, was found inside the property by firefighters.

The cause of the fire will be the subject of a joint investigation by the Fire and Rescue Service and North Wales Police.

An elderly woman made it out of the property after being alerted by a working smoke alarm. She was treated for smoke inhalation at the scene.

A spokesman for North Wales Police confirmed that the death was not being treated as suspisious.
