Gobowen's Women's Institute has held its latest monthly meeting.

President Helen Cattell welcomed members and a number of visitors to the November meeting.

The programme planning is almost complete for next year and once again Gobowen offers a number of varied and interesting speakers.

Members were reminded that the coach would pick up at 9am on November 27 at the playing field for the Great Days Out event in Chester.

Final preparations were also made for the Christmas meal at The Boote Inn, Whittington in December.

The centenary planter would be completed the next day, while Letters of thanks were read out from the two charities which benefitted from the group concert in September.

Helen explained how members could easily login to the WI’s national website, ‘My WI’ to take full advantage of all that the WI offers.

Items from the county newsletter were highlighted, including the Annual meeting when Floella Benjamin OBE DL will be the main speaker.

The calendar competition for 2021 was also brought to members’ attention.

Names were taken for the group Carol Service to be held in West Felton

Next year it is the turn of Gobowen WI to have ‘first refusal’ to send a delegate to the National Annual General Meeting at the Royal Albert Hall in London.

The meeting then continued with Lori Whinn who gave a talk entitled’ All Things Chocolate’. She spoke of how she had begun her business, Coco Pzazz from humble beginnings to her now very successful business based in Powys. Members were delighted to take part in a quiz which involved a lot of ‘blind’ tasting.

There was then a rush to buy the delicious chocolate items Lori had brought along. She was thanked by Helen.

The next meeting is the Christmas meal. The first meeting of the New Year will be on January 7, 2020 and is open to everyone.

The demonstrator will be Tina from the Plassey, who will show ladies many different ways of tying a scarf. It would be best if members brought along a scarf of their own so they can ‘have a go’. There will also be an opportunity of buying items such as handbags, scarves and jewellery at sale prices.

Gobowen WI meets at 7pm on the first Tuesday of every month at All Saints’ Church Hall, Gobowen. WI has something for everyone, but in particular it offers the opportunity of making new friends.

Why not drop in to the January meeting with a friend or on your own and ‘try’ us out? You can be assured of a very warm welcome.
