HALLOWE’EN arrived early on Strictly Come Dancing last week, as the couples donned creepy costumes and danced to spooky songs.

Whitchurch’s own, AJ Pritchard, and Saffron Barker – in character as Sabrina Spellman from 90s show Sabrina the Teenage Witch – jived around the dancefloor to the classic song Every Little Thing She Does Is Magic by The Police.

And after coming out on top of week five’s leaderboard, the dancing duo had a lot to prove with this week’s jive for ‘Fright Night’.

Bruno Tonioli, who returned to the judging panel after other commitments last week, was full of praise for the pair and their “bewitching” dance.

“You definitely bewitched me, and the audience,” said Bruno. “That was so clear.

“The chemistry between you two was sizzling.

“You’re selling the character to me and to Great Britain.”

And Craig Revel-Horwood added: “That’s the first dance I’ve enjoyed tonight. It’s put a smile on my face.”

After the panel’s positive comments – in-keeping with the night’s theme – presenter Tess Daly commented: “You enchanted the judges.”

The duo achieved three eights and one nine for their jive, giving them a total of 33 – not quite as high as last week’s score, but it placed them in fourth position on the Strictly leaderboard and ensured they lived to fight – or dance – another day.
