Youngsters in villages near Oswestry have been boosted by members of one of the town’s Rotary clubs.

Oswestry Cambrian Rotary has contributed to the purchase of a multi-function table for West Felton Youth Club after a plea from one of the leaders there.

Tracy has been leader of West Felton Youth Club, for four years.

The club provides a safe and nurturing environment for young people aged 10 to 16 from West Felton and surrounding villages and is affiliated to the Shropshire Youth Association.

President Ron Pugh believes the donation was right “on cue” for the youth club.

He said: “Our club was very pleased to be able to respond to a plea from youth club leader Tracy for a multi-function table, that can be folded away for storage, for the young people and to help out this very active club.

“There are 59 young people registered with the club and they consistently get more than 30 youngsters attending each session. They encourage the young people to be active and involved in their community, and have won first place for their walking float at the Christmas parade for the second year running.

“The club is run purely by volunteers and they do not have any “official” funding unfortunately, like a lot of youth services nowadays.”

“So, if your company can help with funds or any local people are able to help on club evenings please contact West Felton Youth Club.

“If you are considering volunteer work in the community then Oswestry Cambrian club is ready to welcome men and women of 18 years plus from all walks of life from the local community as Rotarians or as Friends of Rotary.

“We are a very relaxed style of ‘new Rotary’, never short of projects of all sorts and a club of community action in Oswestry so come and join us and get involved.

“We meet informally at The Wynnstay Hotel, Church Street, Oswestry on Thursday evenings. No weekly meals for us, we meet in the bar at 7.30pm to start our meeting at 8pm.
