A NEW petrol station in Oswestry has opened its doors – and pumps – to the public for the first time.

Morrisons officially opened its new Shrewsbury Road garage at 6am on Friday morning, ahead of the opening of its new superstore later this month.

The station – which is three times bigger than its previous Oswald Road site – now boasts four extra pumps, a hot food section, a fresh flowers stand, customer toilets and a 'small off-licence'.

Petrol station manager Rob Yale is delighted with the new garage and said that feedback has been great so far.

"We've had a lot of ‘wows’ this morning," he said.

"We're now open until 11pm, seven days-a-week which is a big bonus for us.

"You can do your Sunday shop here once the main store closes. In fact you could do a full weekly shop here now!”

He added: "As well as existing staff, we now have five new employees to help with the extra opening hours and the hot food section – creating new jobs in the area which is good."

Customer assistant, Lucy Parker, who has worked for the company for five years and is stepping into her new role at the new site, was also delighted and excited for it to be up and running.

"It's really important to Morrisons to put our customers first, so I'm excited about taking that further.

"All the staff in here are brilliant. They all work really hard.

"It's always good to see a friendly face and it's just nice to finally see it all come together."

Feedback from the public was also positive as a steady flow of customers arrived at the petrol station.

One customer, Lee Lewis, was extremely happy that he was able to buy his favourite sweet treats.

"They've got my favourite jam doughnuts here, I can't get them from the store so I'm made up!

"It's really big in here and clean and fresh."

And Lee's mum, Sandra Roberts, echoed her son's views on the petrol station.

"The staff are very helpful here," she said.

"It looks great and it's easier to access.

"I can't wait for the store to open now."

Rob added: "Business has been steady so far but we expect it to be busy later.

"Come and take a look!"
