A NORTH Shropshire Team GB athlete is set to take part in October’s Oswestry 10k race.

Jimmy Kershaw, who has represented Team GB in both duathlon and triathlon events, will be at the start line on Sunday, October 13 for the first Oswestry 10k event.

For organiser Alan Lewis, it is great to be welcoming Jimmy and plenty of other strong runners to the event.

He said: “Jimmy is a local lad, I’ve known him for a long time and have been able to watch his career flourish.

“He wrote to us in the week to tell us he’s in. He’s a really big name and although he’s a tri-athlete, he is a really strong runner.

“We also have a young man named Jack Pickett who finished third in the Lake Vyrnwy half-marathon a few weeks ago who is very talented, and Paul Jones and Jamie Lambie who both represent Shrewsbury Athletics Club.

“There will be plenty of great runners competing with them on the day and pushing them to their limit too.”

Alan is pleased to have runners of all abilities taking part, and hopes people starting out can take inspiration from some of the more experienced runners.

“Locals who are fond of sport are really fond of Jimmy,” Alan added.

“He left the area as a youngster and now he can come back for his home race; it’s great.

“People in the sporting community like stories like that.

“It will be a good opportunity for him to catch up with local people taking part.”

More than 1,000 runners are expected at the start line for the event.

The Oswestry 10K will be held on October 13.
