MACMILLAN Cancer Support volunteers in Malpas are aiming to break through the £15,000 mark after their latest coffee morning fundraiser at Malpas Sports Club on Saturday.

Organiser Billie-Jean Holden has run the fundraising events for five but was keen to pay tribute to all those who provide their time and services to the cause.

She said: "I might be steering the ship but there are so many other people who are helping out. Every year seems to get bigger; I started out with four others and now there are about 10 of us who organise things.

"We've got a tombola, raffles, guess the cake weight, local produce stalls and everything has been donated by local people.

"Chester Event Hire have provided the marquee free of charge and Malpas Linen Hire have provided the tablecloths.

"We've raised £12,500 in the last four years and we're hoping for another £2,500 to smash the £15,000."

Edge Construction in Malpas donated £50 to the Mug of Money and Cornhill Coffee provided fresh brews in return for a donation.
