A WOMAN from Tetchill has been raising money for others while fighting her own cancer battle.

Laura Edwards, who is currently receiving treatment every six months for breast cancer, has walked up Snowdon to fundraise for a friend whose father passed away suddenly this year.

In order to raise money to support her friend Sarah Evans and her family, Laura and a group from her local gym completed the hike earlier this month.

"I first met Sarah last year when she did my nails for my brother's wedding," said Laura.

"We became friends, so when she told me her dad had passed away suddenly, I wanted to raise some money for the family.

"I had never climbed Snowdon before and it had been on my list of things to do after recovering from breast cancer.

"We set off from Ellesmere at 4.30am and started our climb at 6am – we were very lucky to see the sunrise as we climbed the Pyg path.

"I'm glad I've done it now and I am so grateful to everyone who sponsored me, so a huge thank you to them.

"So far I have raised £400, which I hope will help Sarah and her mum Jayne a little bit."

And before the walk, Sarah spoke of how overwhelmed she was with her friend's act of kindness towards her family, while fighting her own battles.

"My amazing friend is raising money for my family after my dad tragically passed away a few weeks ago," she said.

"Laura is still overcoming her battle with breast cancer but is walking Snowdon and hoping to be up there for sunrise which will be such a personal defeat for her after cancer treatment has hit her lungs and fitness hard.

"This just shows how much of an amazing lady she is to do this for us while still going through her own battles."
