PUPILS at an Oswestry school have raised more than £1,000 for a national charity.

As part of a series of projects undertaken during the previous academic year, Oswestry School pupils have raised £1,098.09 for the Royal National Institute of Blind People (RNIB) to coincide with its 150-year anniversary.

Sixth form students Andrei-Daniel Bahan, Phoebe Munford and Ivan Majić coordinated the Rotary Interact Club and a team of eight members, with the purpose of raising funds for different local and national charities through various activities – including cake sales and a sponsored walk.

At the school's start of term assembly held at St Oswald's Parish Church, president of the club, Andrei-Daniel, thanked the team for their efforts during the past year.

"I would like to give a big thank you to the Interact team for all their efforts over the past academic year. Everyone put a lot of hard work into each of the activities," he said.

"I'd also like to thank Mrs Sue Leonard from the Rotary Club and Mrs Suzanne Shooman, our teacher from school, who have helped us over the past year."

At the assembly, representatives from the RNIB also accepted the cheque from the school.
