GRESFORD had lots to celebrate this weekend at the annual Concert in the Park event.

The Concert in the Park is organised by the Gresford Trust, who celebrated 70 years since establishing as a charity.

Cllr Andy Atkinson, representing Gresford, said: “You don’t have to look far around the county borough to realise how fortunate we are in Gresford to have the brilliant Trust building, its grounds and its volunteers who work so hard to keep everything going so well.

“It is truly the heart of the community and I am grateful to each and every individual that gives, and has given, so much to its success.”

The family-friendly event was held on Saturday with live music, a bar, street food and entertainment for everyone.

The event was opened officially by Cllr Rob Walsh, the mayor of Wrexham, and also gave residents the opportunity to find out about the various activities and social clubs that use the facility in the heart of the village.

Sharing the spotlight was the Gresford Playgroup - who have regular sessions in the Memorial Hall - and celebrated their 50 year anniversary with a display of its own history as well as fun games for children to enjoy and face painting.

The mayor, who announced the best scarecrow entries, said: “I would like to commend everyone who has taken the time to enter and make a scarecrow. The standard of creativity has been very impressive. They are all wonderful.”

This years winner was Postman Pat - who judges said was ‘absolutely brilliant with superb attention to detail - even down to the little black and white cat’. Pat also scooped the people’s choice award as the scarecrow that those following the village trail could best identify the most.

The concert itself followed the prizegiving for the village scarecrow competition. The line up included Take Two, Jess and Maddy, Caine’s Acoustic Project, Emma and Tanya, The Dinosaurs, Catherine Nicholls, Esmond Selwyn and Little Big Band.
