A FAMILY in Flint has received their first instalment of toilet roll after coming runner up in the town scarecrow competition.

Lisa Carroll, from Flint, created a scarecrow version of the American President, Donald Trump, and placed him outside the family home on Prince of Wales Avenue.

Mr Trump received second prize in the competition when results were revealed on September 1.

The family will be given their toilet roll in instalments by Essity Paper Mill in Oakenholt - starting with 117 rolls of toilet roll as well as 24 lots of kitchen roll - the first of which was presented by the town’s deputy mayor, Cllr Mel Buckley.

Kirsty Smith, who launched the first competition in 2016, said: “I am very grateful to the support of all the people of Flint, especially a big thanks to all who have helped organise it with me as without them it would not be possible. Also, my two children Riley and Ava-Gwen who have pestered me to carry it on each year.”

Kirsty said the winners of the competition, Kirsty Gibb, who claimed a £100 prize for the M&M characters, will donate the money to the British Heart Foundation, while £1 for every entry into the competition will also be donated by herself and her husband.

Scarecrows on show ranged from well-known TV and film characters, political icons, family recreations and all manner of wacky characters creating a unique and fun trail of scarecrows to spot.

Organisers have asked that scarecrows remain up for a short while as local schools will be completing a trail around the town to see the scarecrows.
