Oswestry's Cae Glas Park will receive a certificate highlighting its popularity after a 'green space' competition saw it voted as one of the top three parks in the region.

The popular town centre park was one of 364 in the UK voted for by the public as a 'favourite local green space'.

The parks were then narrowed down in each region based on those who placed within the top 20 per cent of all nominations nationwide.

And although the park was pipped to the post by Telford Town Park to take the top spot in the West Midlands, it will now receive a certificate naming it as a 'much-loved' space, recognising the support it has received during the summer by those who use it and love it.

Oswestry Town Council is delighted with the news and happy to see that locals share their love for the park.

Arren Roberts, town clerk, said: "The town council are very proud of our park and we work closely with the contractors to improve it each year.

"It is fantastic to be in the top three in the region and to receive the 'much loved' space status.

"Most of all thanks to those who have nominated it. It's great that the local population enjoy the park also."
