THE resurfacing of the mile-long minor lane leading to former mayor Councillor Vince Hunt’s house in Trefonen stirred up a real hornets’ nest – and finally hit the nationals.

After unprovable claims of preferential treatment, the great Oswestry public had its say on Facebook!

Lee posted: “Money would have been better spent on poor state of the footpath from Trefonen to Oswestry”, while Phil who likes walking added: “If we come across a well-maintained lane we always say a councillor must live round there.”

Dave said: “It’s been happening for years” and Mark wished “I hope a councillor moves to near me”. Olie questions the press being stonewalled: “No comment? – there’s a surprise” while Matt said: “Both should be made to comment”.

Finally, Andy hit the nail on the head when he stressed: “It needs a thorough investigation .. to draw out if there was any real foul play”.

Shropshire Council insists road maintenance is based on need and not by councillors’ demands and added it was a slur “on councillors who work hard to represent their communities”.

WHEN drivers say they are too “scared” to use Llynclys crossroads – that’s the time to take action.

The 8am and 5pm morning and night rush hours bring stomach-wrenching pandemonium, trying to cross this busy A483. Take time out to go and witness it.

And I remain unsure what side of the bed last week’s letter writer alighted, when he wished away the longed-for Pant and Llanymynech planned by-pass, sentencing villagers to a lifetime of heavy lorries. But it misses the point – the by-pass could knock out problematical Llynclys crossroads at a swipe, by hitting the A483 straight running.

SNIPPETS: Temporary traffic lights controlling the risky Middleton Road to Roft Street crossing gave a foretaste of how ‘lights’ take a tad longer but are wholly safer to exit – just what the road doctor ordered!

NEXT, anyone know why Oswestry’s Premier Stores at 1 Gobowen Road has been shut for a while? Our usual inquiries turned up nothing, so over to you!

CHEEKY drivers are blatantly and dangerously using Coney Green to short-circuit access to Sainsbury’s, cutting out the long drive round Morrison’s and Oswald Road.

WHAT an outstanding difference an ‘average speed check’ has had on Wrexham by-pass. Whereas 90 per cent ignored the temporary 50mph limit, now it’s permanent AND an average speed check, 90 per cent toe the line!

FINALLY, fancy a ‘fandango’ at Treflach Farm this weekend?
