THE owner of a shop in Bailey Street, Oswestry, is hoping to find the person or people responsible for smashing her window.

Jane Rees who owns The Oak Furniture Shop, arrived to work on Friday morning to find that one of the front windows at the premises had been smashed.

The damage is identical to that of neighbouring business owner, Wendy Hughes' shop, The Flower Gallery, which was vandalised last year.

The pair now believe that the same person or people are responsible for a number of instances of anti-social behaviour in the area and think that there is a need for extra CCTV systems in the town centre.

"We've heard that those responsible mark down on the window sill how many times it takes to put the glass through," Jane said.

"You can see the tally markings where they have counted how many kicks it has taken to smash it. The same happened to Wendy's flower shop last year.

"The hassle now to have to get the window boarded up and having to claim on my insurance which will bump up the premium, is a nightmare for us as a small business.

"I think the town would benefit from more CCTV cameras and increased police presence to be honest."

And Wendy echoed Jane's concerns about the anti-social behaviour.

"We think that it's all the same people vandalising the shops.

"I haven't had my window fixed from last year yet because it's so expensive and I just think they'd do it again anyway to be honest."

"We're in the process of trawling through the CCTV footage we have now to try and catch a glimpse of who did it," Jane added.

"All of the shop is covered by CCTV so we will find out who did it."

Anyone who was near to the shop on Thursday evening or early Friday morning and may have seen who damaged the shop window, should contact the police on 101.
