A NEW monthly event for adults with learning disabilities has recently launched in Ellesmere.

The first Flamingo Lounge disco took place at the Comrades Sports and Social Club in Victoria Street earlier this month and it was a huge hit.

Louisa Bottomley, one of the events organisers, was delighted with the turnout for the first disco and described how people had travelled from further afield to visit.

“It was well-attended with folks coming from all over north Shropshire, places like Market Drayton and Wem,” she said.

“Everyone said they had a brilliant time and have given us their music choices for next time.

“A big thank you to everyone who came and made this such a fantastic opening night, including Derwen College, Our Space, Bethphage, Liar Liar Oswestry, Amy May, Overton Parade, Maesbury Metals, Corner Patch Oswestry, Freda’s Day Centre, Rebecca Jones, Brian Williams and Maxwell.”

The next Flamingo Lounge event is set to take place on Tuesday, September 3 and there will be a disco, bingo and a raffle.

“We are now offering spaces through a volunteer lift share within a five-mile radius of Ellesmere,” Louisa added.

If you would like to use the car-share service, contact the Flamingo Lounge on Facebook to arrange pick up.
