A CAFE in Oswestry is providing a place for other businesses to ‘test the waters’ before taking the leap to open their own premises.

Tom Jones at Liar Liar has opened up the cafe’s kitchen to be used by up-and-coming local food businesses, giving them a much-needed ‘trial period’, as well as creating a ‘food culture’ within the town.

Tom is eager to support growing businesses and is looking forward to seeing what comes of his ‘Kitchen Takeover’ idea.

“We have been lucky enough to help two businesses grow into their own premises,” he said.

“It’s a big commitment to take the kitchen on a full-time basis, so for a short time I wanted to give people the opportunity of trial periods.

“We’ve already got a business from Shrewsbury pencilled in to come over and I’ve had contact from some exciting places in Liverpool and Manchester too – so it’s also an opportunity to bring some exciting business ideas to Oswestry.

“It’s exciting and I’m looking forward to seeing what comes of it now.”

The kitchen will be used by other businesses for periods of a few days, up to a couple of weeks at a time.

One of the people booked in to make use of the space and facilities on offer is Toyah Spooner, who runs her own vegan bakery business called Toyah Emily – all from her kitchen at home.

She said: “I work from my own kitchen at present.

“I make custom celebration cakes, wedding cakes and wholesale bakes for local cafes and restaurants.

“I also organise and cater events and residential retreats too.

“I’m so excited. I can’t wait to showcase another side of my business that not many get to see unless they attend the events.”

Toyah will be at Liar Liar from September 16 to 21.
