The National Trust is calling on producers in and around Chirk to consider their products for sale at one of its famous attractions.

Chirk Castle is hoping to stock new and exciting local products at the site by reaching out to producers in the local area who could become suppliers for the tourist attraction.

Products would have the potential to be seen and purchased by more than 150,000 visitors to the castle each year.

Spokesman for the National Trust, Gwenno Parry, explained why the site believes it is important to stock local goods.

“We are looking for new suppliers for all our National Trust shops across Wales.

“Our shops come in all shapes, sizes and locations across the country – ranging from beach and coastal locations, to castles and mansion houses, and we want visitors to have the choice to buy something different in each one.

“Connecting with local suppliers and showcasing local talent is an important way of doing this.”

The National Trust are looking for suppliers based within a 30-mile radius of Chirk Castle, and are particularly interested in those producing local honey, Welsh love spoons, woodcraft, fudge, craft items and wine.

Gwenno added: “These are the main things we are looking for, however applications from other areas are welcomed.

“We are also interested in designs inspired by Chirk Castle. As a conservation charity, sourcing is important to us – therefore there is an accreditation process for all food and drink suppliers.

“Last year we welcomed over 170,000 visitors to Chirk Castle, this gives successful suppliers a great opportunity to reach a wide audience on their doorstep.

“And as well as supporting the local area, all profits from the shop goes towards ongoing conservation work at Chirk Castle.”
