The Clwyd branch of the National Farmers Union Cymru will unveil the Dafydd Jones Memorial Award at the 2019 Denbigh and Flint Show to honour the late County Chairman.

Mr Dafydd Jones, from the village of Pwllglas near Ruthin, Denbighsire, sadly passed away in February this year after bravely battling against Myeloma for 18 months.

Despite suffering from this rare type of blood cancer, Mr Jones accepted the opportunity to become the Clwyd County Chairman for NFU Cymru following an annual general meeting in December 2018.

A well-respected individual in the industry, Mr Jones represented his county on NFU Cymru’s Rural Affairs Board for eight years.

NFU Cymru will be holding two seminars in an attempt to get through ‘uncertain times’

.

Paul Williams, NFU Cymru Clwyd County Chairman said: “At one of the most uncertain times for Welsh agriculture, we need to know all the facts.

“The first seminar, which will focus on the current Welsh Government consultation, will allow us to discuss what is outlined and help us to understand it better before we respond.

“The political seminar will also give us the chance to discuss the political climate in the local area as well as further afield, with our Minister and local representatives.

“There will be refreshments on the stand all day and at 9.30am we will also be paying special tribute to our County Chairman, Dafydd Jones, who sadly passed away earlier this year.”

The award will be handed out at the NFU Cymru Clwyd AGM in December 2019 to the member who has made the greatest contribution to agriculture in the county.

Three farmers will be shortlisted for an on-farm visit by the judging panel, with the winner being chosen based on their social, economic and environmental contributions.

The closing date for nominations is September 16. Contact your local NFU group office before then for a nomination form.
