A SISTER and brother from Llansantffraid joined nearly 80 others for a walk around Lake Vyrnwy for Parkinson's last month.

The event was one of 45 taking place across the UK throughout 2019 to raise vital funds for charity Parkinson’s UK. Fundraisers had the choice of two routes around one of Wales’s most beautiful lakes.

Fox Peter, nine, and his sister Sky Peter, seven, from Llansantffraid, took part in the walk on the day.

They said:

“Our Grandad was diagnosed with Parkinson’s 18 months ago which is why we decided as a family to take part in our local Walk for Parkinson’s.

“It was great to spend time as a family whilst walking around the beautiful Lake Vyrnwy. We’ve found Parkinson’s UK to be very supportive and we’ve managed to raise over £250 for the charity.”

Fox took on the 12-mile walk with mum Andrea and family friend Katie, and Sky took part in the two-mile walk with her Grandad and Nanny. Parkinson’s UK hopes to raise £10,000 from the day, on July 14, which will go towards the charity’s pioneering research to find a cure for the condition.

Bethan Palfrey, Parkinson’s UK’s Regional Fundraising Manager for Wales, said: “I’d like to say a huge thank you to the Peter family and to everyone else who took part in Walk for Parkinson’s Lake Vyrnwy.

"The money raised will go towards Parkinson’s UK’s research work so we can help stop Parkinson’s for good.”
