STAFF at an Oswestry agricultural business will soon be undertaking a mammoth cycle ride to raise funds for charity.

Workers at JFC Manufacturing based in the Maesbury Road Industrial Estate, are set to don their Lycra on August 15 and tackle a 300-mile-long ride, over three days, spanning three countries.

Similar to last year's charity cycle by JFC, cyclists will start at the company's plant in Galway in Ireland and end up back in Oswestry.

But this year will include an extra 100 miles, as the riders will be taking in the Irish Atlantic coast, cycling to Dublin, and crossing to Holyhead before tackling the tough terrain of Snowdonia on the final day in aid of the Royal Agricultural Benevolent Institution (RABI) and the Riding for the Disabled Association (RDA).

Sue Taylor, head of sales, is looking forward to working together as a team and says this year is set to be bigger and better than last.

"Last year’s event was a real success and great fun, so we opted to go bigger and better this year," she said.

"An extra day, an extra hundred miles in glorious Ireland makes this a significant endurance challenge, but we will start and finish as a team with JFC support crew backing us up throughout.

"And [we] hope to raise a substantial sum for our two chosen charities."

"We are more than proud to support two such important causes as RABI and RDA – each performing vital work particularly in the agricultural and equestrian sectors where we know so many people.

"With the growing awareness of mental health issues affecting farmers and rural communities in general, it seemed fitting to support both charities.

The event will take place between August 15-17 with riders being transported out to Galway where they will head homewards with overnight stops in Tuam and Holyhead.

"We have 12 riders completing the 300 miles with a further seven riders joining for the UK leg which makes this one of the friendliest endurance challenges you will find anywhere," Sue Added.

"It may be the only ride where you end up knowing every participant by name!"
