Oswestry Team Tennis – OTT – has enjoyed a successful season in Tennis Shropshire Doubles Men’s League 7N gaining promotion at its first attempt after its relegation from 6N last year.
Its 3-1 win away at Town Walls last week in its final match ensured promotion.
They currently occupy top position on 21 points but Woore have 18 points in second place and have a match-in-hand away at Wem, so a 4-0 Woore win will see OTT in runner-up spot.
The team operated on a rota system with nine players contributing to its success – Juniors Kobe Jones, Elliot Birch, Guy Welti, Daniel Edwards, Andrew Hollywell, Aaron Spelman, and adults Calin Balasa, Andy Edwards and Blake Strefford.
The mainstay of the team however has been Kobe who won nine out of his 12 matches played with his three partners, with Daniel Edwards, Andy Edwards, Calin Balasa, Blake Strefford and Elliot Birch all having 100 per cent success records.
Five good wins were achieved against Boughey Gardens, Baschurch, Hollies, Wem, Town Walls, a draw against Norton in Hales after bad weather intervened, with the only loss away to Woore.
Clive Knight, non playing team captain, said: “I am very pleased with the overall performance of the team this season, and congratulations to all of them. I look forward to our next season in Division 6N!”
