Cameras have been installed in Llanarmon DC in an attempt to fight against incidents of aggression from offroad 4x4 drivers towards residents.

The installation of CCTV and automatic number plate recognition cameras comes after more than 80 residents raised concerns over the matter at a public meeting attended by North Wales Police and Crime Commissioner Arfon Jones.

Mr Jones stated his commitment to address the problems of anti-social behaviour and illegal drivers in the area.

He has since increased the police presence and instigated a number of operations to stop and check 4x4s and motorcycles heading for the mountain tracks.

As a result, the police have fined several motorists, issued several warnings and seized vehicles which were not taxed.

Wrexham County Borough Councillor for Ceiriog Valley, Trevor Bates, said: “I am very grateful to Arfon Jones and his Police Officers for their commitment to our community.

“I would also like to thank GLASS (The Greenlane Association) for their help and understanding of the situation, we sometimes tar everyone with the same brush but many of those who come to drive the lanes are responsible and friendly people just out to enjoy the countryside.”

Members of GLASS are currently planning to undertake repairs to a local track called the Wayfarer which runs from Llanarmon DC to Llandrillo.

GLASS members recently met to look at some of the problem areas which are in urgent need of repair work.
