DIGITAL infrastructure would be one of the number one priorities for the Montgomeryshire’s next Conservative Party parliamentary candidate.

Craig Williams says that, should he succeed Glyn Davies MP, he would try to play his part in securing investment in digital infrastructure to open up the jobs market in the area beyond agriculture and tourism.

He said: “It is a bugbear of mine and needs collaboration with the Welsh Government.

“You should be able to sit in Llanfair Caereinion and be able to do your job the same as you can anywhere else in the world.”

Mr Williams says he is a “big supporter” of devolution, but says the Welsh Assembly Government is “obsessed with investment down south”and priorities need to change to tackle rural deprivation.

He added that Brexit should be seen as an opportunity for Mid Wales as it does not receive the same level of European funding as other parts of the country.

He said: “We have lost out in Powys. It is a great opportunity to fund regions fairly and tackle huge challenges in rural areas.”
