AFTER failing to beat league leaders Pontesbury firsts in their Shropshire County Cricket League Division One clash on the weekend, Frankton have suffered two losses from two games against two of the division’s leading teams.

Pontesbury opened the batting after winning the toss and started well with top order batsman Patrick Cudmore managing 83 runs.

He was helped to the 100 mark by Owen Morris and Dan Walker, who scored 13 and 14 runs respectively.

James Moss’ 33 added to the total to help his side end their innings on 225 all out.

In response, skipper Mark Lammie was dismissed for Frankton after just six runs, while partner Brent Doubell managed the team’s highest score on the afternoon with 35.

The middle order struggled to make their mark on the game with the exception of Jason Brookes, who scored 24 runs.

Matt Smart for Pontesbury took up the attack with relish as he picked up the ball to remove all five of Frankton’s remaining batsmen.

Tom Cockayne gave his side a glimmer of hope towards the end of the innings when he reached 34, however it was not enough as his side was eventually bowled out for 164.

The result means Frankton remain third, but now sit 37 points behind Pontesbury who lead the way in division one.

Frankton firsts travel to face Alderbury first XI on Saturday.

The weekend was equally as disappointing for Frankton second XI as they suffered a heavy seven-wicket loss in the match against Harpers firsts.

Batting first, Frankton’s highest scorer on the day was Ross Bladen who managed 15.

The side never really got going and could only post a total of 77 all out.

Harpers responded well and reached 78 after losing just three wickets to claim the win.

Frankton seconds face Quatt seconds at home on Saturday.

It was not all that bad for Frankton thirds, however, as they picked up a win at home against Worfield thirds.

The result means Frankton move to fifth in the Shropshire County Cricket League Sunday Division One after beating the league leaders.
