NORTH Shropshire was rocked on Tuesday night by a massive lightning storm that struck the region.

Lightning, as well as heavy rain rolled into the region at around 1am on Wednesday.

Several addresses in Oswestry and beyond suffered power cuts from around 11.30pm on Tuesday that persisted into the early hours of Wednesday morning.

In preparation of the impending storms, energy providers Scottish Power say more staff were on duty last night to assist with any power restoration efforts.

The inclement weather also caused issues in other areas, with firefighters in Wem being called at around 1.20am on Wednesday to deal with electrics that had been effected by flooding.

And across the border in Wrexham, a family had a lucky escape after their home caught fire following a lightning strike.
