Oswestry Town Council will discuss whether it will be possible to have a member of the licensing team at Shropshire Council to attend a future to meeting to explain their policy around around disabled people.

The motion was brought forward to Monday's full town council meeting by deputy mayor Councillor Duncan Kerr after he was informed that wheelchair or motorised scooter users were unable to use taxis at an evening time.

This was because, according to Cllr Kerr, none of the operators have adapted vehicles at that time and would be unable to cater for the passengers and Cllr Kerr wants Shropshire Council to explain if this is in accordance with the Equalities Act.

Meanwhile, fellow Green councillor Olly Rose has proposed that the town council joins with 202 other councils in signing the Tree Charter, which calls for the protection of trees.

Councillors will also be asked to consider a Shropshire Council consultation on the future of polling stations in the area, as part of a wider review by the unitary authority.

The five stations across the area – Hope Church, Oswestry Memorial Hall, Horeb Welsh methodist Rooms, Seion Chapel and Gatacre Pavilion – will all be under review and if anyone wishes to take part in the consultation, they can do so as Shropshire Council's website until August 12.

Other items on the agenda at the meeting, which starts at 7pm at the Guildhall, include asking the Cemetery Management Fund to review its policy in light of the recently-established government-led Children's Funeral Fund.

They will also consider whether to establish a social media policy for councillors and will discuss the Central Car Park exit.

In the the private session, which excludes press and members of the public, there will discussions on the cemetery land and the Chairman's Group.
