Oswestry captain Dean Suter hailed Joe Carrasco’s performance as his side stormed to the top of the Birmingham and District Premier Cricket League Premier Division Two table.

Carrasco made 111 runs from 68 balls to help his side to an important victory over Bridgnorth on the weekend.

Suter believes the performance by his teammate was one of the best he’s seen at the Stonehouse Oval.

“Joe put in one of the best standout performances I’ve seen,” he said.

“I’ve seen some great players at our ground before including Joe Clarke – but Joe (Carrasco) was absolutely phenomenal on the weekend.

“He was hitting great bowlers into the houses behind the club house.

“He’s certainly ready to play at a higher level for sure.”

With other results favouring Oswestry on the weekend, including defeat for Harborne and a losing draw for Ombersley, the Bordermen climbed to the top spot and now lead the league by two points.

Suter insists the side want to take the season game by game as they look to hold the top spot.

He added: “Every game is massive now.

“We play Leamington next week who are a very good side – we know now we can win or lose to anybody, so we have to be focused.

“We want to look at cementing our position at the top of the league, that would be fantastic for the club.

The skipper went on to say how pleased he has been with his side in the absence of star players Roman Walker and Warrick Fynn.

“It’s great to see how good we have been with lads coming in to replace Warrick and Roman in the past few games.

“We’ve still been very good, lads who have come in have been fantastic.

“Josh Darley was another player who did really well on the weekend, he batted very professionally.”

Oswestry are home again on Saturday to host Leamington (12noon start).
