GARDENS in Chirk will be open to the public for an afternoon this weekend.

Friends of Whitehurst Gardens, who are hoping to restore the gardens, are holding the open day again this year, giving people the chance to explore the Grade II-listed St Anne's Cottage and view the gardens, in what is its biggest fundraising event of the year.

Visitors can explore the historic gardens.

There will be a plant sale, teas, cakes and a raffle at the event.

Reverend Andrew Wyton will give a talk entitled "searching for plants" to guests.

The open day takes place on Sunday, July 21 between 1pm and 5pm at Queen Anne's Cottage, Whitehurst Gardens, Chirk, LL14 5AS.

Admission costs £4 and entry is free for children under the age of 12.
