Four men from Hope Church, Oswestry have done their bit to help the town’s swift population by constructing 19 boxes for Shropshire Wildlife Trust as part of their Volunteer Week work.

Timber was provided by the Trust and cut to size by volunteers from Men in Sheds, with the boxes were then assembled by Richard Wilson, James Buxton, Chris Evans and Lawrence Austin from Hope Church.

Installing a swift box on your house is a great way to try and help these astonishing birds, which spend just three months here over the summer, before departing for Africa. Uniquely, swifts spend almost their entire life on the wing, eating, sleeping, drinking and even mating in the air. They touch down only to breed.

The boxes are on sale for £7 each, to cover the cost of materials. If you are interested in buying one please email or ring Sarah 01691 662745.
