A COUNCILLOR will have his planning application to build a barn looked at by the planning committee on Thursday, July 4.

Cllr Dai Davies, Independent, Berriew, has submitted an application to build an agricultural building which is 18.3 metres in length, 9.14 metres in width and 5.65 metres in height on the ridge.

Planning Officer Bryn Pryce said in the report: “The proposed building is detached from the main farm complex which is located some some 470metres to the south east.

“While officers acknowledge that the proposed building is detached from existing agricultural buildings.

“Given the profile of the building, orientation and appearance, it is not considered that the proposal will unacceptably adversely affect the character and appearance of the surrounding area.”

Mr Pryce goes on to say that landscaping would be needed to make sure that the barn would melt into the countryside.

He added: “Having carefully considered the proposed development, despite the isolated site, it is considered that the proposal is fundamentally acceptable in respect of design, scale, height, massing and materials and therefore will complement and enhance the character and appearance of the local area.”

The report is to approve the application with conditional consent.

The application goes before the committee as it is one made by a councillor.

In May, Cllr Davies was given permission to remove an occupancy restriction on a house at his farm called Maes-y-Nant.

The house was built as an “agricultural dwelling” after being given permission in 2005. The restriction meant that the occupier should “solely or mainly be employed in agriculture or forestry”.

In 2009 consent was given for a double garage.

The house had been for sale from November 2016 to June 2018 at £235,000 when the application to remove the restriction had been made.

A district valuer report said that the house could be For Sale for £345,000 if it was on the open market.
