A TEAM of pupils from St Martins School have been crowned winners of an annual investment competition.

The competition, which is ran by the Rotary Club of Oswestry and HSBC, sees teams of students from local schools investing a notional sum of £10,000 into the financial markets of the London Stock Exchange for a period of six months, commencing on November 1.

This years winning team, Mo's and Bros, which included members Ethan Burd, Lucy Morris, Molly Heighway and Kyran Scott attended a Rotary Lunch at the Wynnstay Hotel in Oswestry where they received their winners cheques, goody bags from HSBC and a cheque for £100 on behalf of St Martins School.

Out of the 20 teams entered this year from five schools, nine increased their investments after what was a difficult trading year given the abnormal political scene, with the winners being up by £2,781.65.

Robin Sinclair who organised the event, congratulated all those who took part and thanked business specialist from HSBC Sean Makin, who had independently invigilated the investments which could be changed once a month, by saying: "I hope that they all enjoyed their introduction to share trading and that the competition formed a useful tool as part of their curriculum.

"We hope that all of the schools and colleges who took part this year will do so again next year and we look forward to hearing from any others who would like to participate."

He added: "Any new school interested in taking part next year should contact us via rotarycluboswestry@gmail.com."
