Oswestry Table Tennis league recently held its annual presentation evening.

Members were joined by family and friends to be recognised for their achievements during the last season.

The awards were presented by president Brian Suckley and vice presidents Norman Morris and Ivor Parish.

Former secretary for the league, Jim Reeves, said he was pleased to see such a good turnout.

“The evening went very well,” he said.

“Oswestry Golf Club was a great venue for the event as always, it made for a great evening.

“More than 80 people turned up which is a great turnout as our league isn’t one of the biggest around.

“The meal offered by Slater Catering was fantastic, and it was a really fun evening all-round for everyone in attendance.

“I’d like to thank everyone who came along to make it such a good evening.”

The former secretary added how pleasing it is to see the sport still doing well in the area.

He said: “It’s great to see that the sport still seems to be thriving around here.

“Around 30 years ago it was thriving, but then with the advancement of technology it seemed as tough less people were getting out to play the sport, however over the past four or five years we’ve seen participation levels going up again which is great.

“It’s an exciting time for the league.

“We have a new chairman in Phil Langford who has been doing very well.

“This year we have managed to get a sponsor for the league which is going to be very helpful. We would like to thank Nexa Law Ltd. Oswestry for their sponsorship.

“The league has 14 teams at the minute, but we’re always looking for more.”

If there are any teams in the region that would like to join the league you can contact Jim on 01691 662425 for more information and to find out how to get involved.
