The annual Oswestry Colour Run has been hailed a roaring success.

All in aid of Macmillan Cancer Support, this year’s Colour Run was hosted at the British Ironwork Centre and saw almost 1,300 runners take on the three kilometre course – with a sprinkling of powdered paint for good measure.

As with every proceeding year, the weather was on the organisers’ side with glorious sunshine and just the right temperature to keep everyone warm without, fortunately, being scorching hot.

Dressed proudly in their official Macmillan Colour Run T-shirts, runners from across the region of all ages, abilities and walks of life could be seen making their way through the newly designed trail spanning across the Ironworks’ grounds.

Clive Knowles, owner of the Ironworks, said: “Some ran, some walked, and some skipped their way to the finish line, but everyone got completely covered in a rainbow of bright colours and all had an absolutely fantastic time.

“Each runner was provided with an official T-shirt, protective sunglasses, sun screen and water sponsored by Wenlock Spring.

“In addition to all of the facilities available at last year’s event including a live DJ and warm-up sessions, multiple paint stations, and unique appreciation medals for every participant, a few new additions were also introduced this year.

“Sprinklers lined the initial leg of the race allowing everyone to cool off before reaching the finish line where they were each presented with their medal on a photobooth podium.

“Macmillan are currently in the process of getting all proceeds counted to see just how much we managed to raise. Last year, over £14,500 was raised and it’s already looking like we’ve exceeded that number this year.

“A huge thank you goes out to Macmillan and all of their volunteers, the Girlguiding Shropshire team, Imperium Gym, Galliers Homes, and every participant, who all contributed greatly to making the event such a massive success.

“We are already in the process of making next year’s Colour Run an even bigger and better event and look forward to seeing what 2020 will bring for Macmillan and everyone else involved.”
