CHESHIRE is officially home to the best ice cream parlours in the country after beating competition from around the UK to land first and second place.

The Ice Cream Farm and Snugbury’s, both based in Cheshire, have come in 1st and 2nd place on a list of the best ice cream parlours in the UK topping competitors from Cornwall to Edinburgh.

The Ice Cream Farm, based in Tattenhall, just outside Chester came in at first place on the list of the 25 best ice cream parlours in the UK, as decided by Big 7.

In 1980, the Fell family moved to Drumlan Hall Farm, the introduction of the Milk Quota restrictions led them to look for ways to add value to the excess milk that their 300 dairy cows were producing.

In 1986, they decided to begin manufacturing real dairy ice cream, initially selling their product in a small on-site ice cream parlour, which has rapidly grown into a multi award-winning tourist attraction, The Ice Cream Farm, home to the Guinness World Record’s ‘Largest Ice Cream Shop’ and the Cheshire Farm Ice Cream wholesale brand.

With more than 50 flavours of ice cream in the parlour, unusual options include white chocolate, raspberry and Oreo, cotton candy and unicorn, which is a jelly bean flavour ice cream with a bubblegum ripple and unicorn sugar pieces, as well as plenty of classic options, including their award-winning ‘Vanilla Pod’.

Warrington Guardian:

Snugbury’s, based just outside Nantwich, is an ice-cream outlet in a converted barn with a courtyard and canalside walking trail.

The parlour landed second place on the list thanks to its loyal customer base who come from miles to sample the ice cream made by the three sisters at the helm of the business.

Jonathan Fell, Director of The Ice Cream Farm, added: “Cheshire has some of the finest and most innovative producers in the country and it’s great to see two businesses championed in this way.

“We’re so proud to be voted number one, alongside our county neighbours, Snugbury’s - who have been producing ice cream since 1986, just like us.

“It’s important for local producers to support each other and for us to both make it to the top spots of the list is a real achievement.”
