A COMMUNITY event held in Selattyn recently managed to raise more than £1,000 for an Oswestry social enterprise.

Selattyn Fete held at St Mary’s Church in Selattyn on Saturday, May 18, welcomed people from the community and neighbouring villages and town for a fun-filled day which raised a total of £2,500.

Since 2010, the church has given half of the money raised by the fete to a local charity or group.

This year, £1,250 was donated to volunteer-run organisation Designs in Mind, based in Oswestry.

Kath Pimble of the church was pleased to see the event had raised such a large sum of money.

She said: "The event used to be a church fete, but we decided to get the community involved and it has now become a village fete.

"We've supported various groups through the event in the past – we like to choose smaller groups and charities which can be helped massively by that amount of money.

"We’re a small village and it’s amazing to raise such a fantastic sum of money to share between the village church and some brilliant local charities who are doing great work in and around Oswestry

"We were looking for another group to support this year and someone suggested Designs in Mind, so after looking into it we decided to go with them.

"On top of that, mental health issues have been in the public eye a lot recently, and at the time of selecting a charity, Mental Health Week was just coming to an end, so it seemed the right thing to do."
