The owner of a business which has been part of the fabric of Oswestry or more than 50 years is hoping for a 'guardian angel' to help save them from closure.

Bromley's Hideaway Cafe, which is set just off Willow Street in Oswestry, has been serving food to generations of Oswestrians as grandparents, parents and children have shared meals over the decades.

But now owner Thomas Frünzel admits the future of the restaurant is looking bleak, unless a saviour who can offer new premises at affordable rates to maintain an institution of the town.

"The landlord bought the building and now he wants to use it for himself," said Thomas, who is from Germany but lives in Welshpool.

"I've been here since December 2010 but Bramley's as a cafe has been here since 1964.

"We know we have to go but we don't want to do it. We're looking but at the moment it's a lot to expect.

"But the rents and the rates are too expensive for a business like ours, it's just not payable.

"If there's something coming then we would like to take it but it's got to be within the next two weeks as we close on July 13.

"That means we only have two weeks to vacate the premises.

"We're not going to dwell on the situation now as it's been coming for a few years but we need to look at potential new places."

Thomas added that another downside of the closure would be the loss of jobs for five people, and urged new potential landlords to get in touch if they can help.

"We're hoping for a miracle as there's five members of staff who will face being made redundant," he added.

"We're hoping that there's a guardian angel out there for us.

"But it's now got to the point where we need the help straight away."
