A FUN-FILLED night of music has been organised as part of a fundraising effort to raise money for a terminally-ill St Martins woman.

The event is being held in aid of Laura Pugh, who was diagnosed with cervical cancer late last year.

Laura was recently told her condition is incurable which spurred friends and even people she did not already know to act generously and begin fundraising to send her and her family on a dream holiday.

Laura’s friend Charlotte James set up a Just Giving page with a target of £2,000 to send the family on the holiday, but the total donated has now surpassed £4,000.

Charlotte said: “The response has been amazing and completely overwhelming.

“When I initially heard Laura had found out her condition is incurable, I felt like I had to do something, so after speaking to her I decided I would set up a Just Giving page for them to go on a holiday.

“I didn’t promise it would do anything, but it has gone through the target which is fantastic.

“I’m determined to raise as much money as I can for whatever Laura and her family needs.”

The music night is set to be held at Black Gate pub in Salop Road, with an array of local bands performing on the evening.

It is free to attend, with a raffle draw priced at £2 a strip to take place, with refreshments and barbecue food on offer.

Prizes donated for the raffle draw include a £50 holiday voucher, hair and nail vouchers and a Tesco hamper among many others.

Charlotte added: “I’d like to thank everyone that has donated money and prizes so far.

"I would like to thank Adi who has helped to bring together local bands to perform at the event.

“Thanks to One Stop in Cabin Lane, Oswestry for their fundraising efforts, as well as everyone else that has done their bit. We all want to do enough to put a smile on Laura’s face.”

The music night will take place between 4.30pm and 11pm on Sunday, July 14.

Anyone willing to make donations can do so by contacting Charlotte, dropping donations off at her parents house or by donating to the Just Giving page at www.justgiving.com/crowdfunding/caitlin-rose-james
