Utilities companies are investigating after large parts of Newtown were left without water supply this morning.

Residents in the Vaynor area of the town woke up to find the taps had run dry, ironically after a night of torrential rain had left flash flooding affecting roads in the area.

A spokesperson from water supplier Hafren Dyfrdwy said they were hoping the problems would be resolved by lunch time.

"We’re extremely sorry to customers in the Newtown area, who are experiencing low water pressure and interruptions to their supply this morning," said a spokesperson.

"This is because of a joint between two sections of pipe that failed during the early hours of today. We have teams on-site, working hard to restore supplies as quickly as possible, by moving water around our network. When everyone is back on supply, we’ll focus on repairing the damaged section of pipe.

"Again, we’re sorry to our customers for the disruption this will be causing."
