Oswestry Team Tennis’ girls under-14 team showed their domination of their age category by retaining the Aegon Team Tennis Girls Shropshire division title for the third consecutive year.

They won the girls under-12 title in 2017, the under-14 title in 2018, and have retained this title in spectacular fashion, beating the Wem’s under-14 team by six points to zero in their final match of the campaign.

Kornelia Kielan and Millie Parsons-Hann represented the Oswestry team for this match against the Wem pairing of Anna Cladingbowl and Millie Shaw.

In the opening singles rubbers, Keilaa beat Cladingbowl 6-1, 6-1 while in the battle of the ‘Millies’, Parson-Hann beat Shaw 6-0, 6-0 with both Oswestry girls playing some spectacular, accurate, hard hitting tennis.

With the match already won, the third rubber – the doubles rubber – was a chance for the Oswestry girls to wrap up the season in fine style which they duly did, winning 6-1,6-2.

So the Oswestry Team Tennis girls squad, which rotated their three players including Ellie Edwards, retain their title having achieved all 18 of the available points, not losing a single rubber in this year’s campaign.

Team captain Gary Edwards said: “I am so proud of these girls, their attitude, commitment and ability have been unbelievable and it is a tribute to the tennis coaches and coaching system at Oswestry Team Tennis that has got them to the high standard that they perform at today.

“Hopefully they can go on to replicate this campaigns results in the under-16s age category that they will be competing in next year.”
