TWO talented brothers from Oswestry have successfully painted their way to a world-famous art exhibition to showcase their paintings.

The creative siblings from Oswestry School — Charlie and Oliver Miller, 11 and 13, respectively — beat off competition from thousands of entrants to have their work placed in the Royal Academy Summer Exhibition in London.

Out of 6,200 entries, the boys’ artwork was chosen among 139 pieces of art which will be framed and proudly displayed in the acclaimed venue this summer and also showcased on the Academy’s online exhibition.

Speaking of one of his pieces Our Friend Michael, Year 7 pupil Charlie said: “I began by making portraits of all the world leaders, inspired by a book I found in a charity shop of Platon's portrait photography.

“Our friend Michael put them all up in his salon and everyone liked them.

“I then made a print of Michael with his funny glasses, jazzy shirt, blue hair and big smile; he looked just like a politician — orange seemed to suit him.”

Earlier on in the year, the boys’ wowed judges in the primary and secondary school’s Halls Young Artist competition, with them both coming out on top in their categories against pupils from schools all across Shropshire and Staffordshire.

Head of art and design, Neil Pottinger, said: “Pupils deserve a curriculum that prepares them to thrive in the 21st century and Oswestry School is determined to support children who might pursue a career in the creative industries. “Both Oliver and Charlie are making the very most of their talent and we encourage them to enjoy a high-quality arts education.

“Well done boys, we look forward to watching your talents flourish.”
