Whittington welcomed the return of the Green Fair on Sunday – and saw more stalls and visitors than ever before.

The event has been held for a few years in the grounds of Whittington Castle.

Jonjo Evans, from the Oswestry branch of Extinction Rebellion, believes the ongoing discussions surround climate change and single-use plastic led to the increase in visitor numbers.

He explained: "It's nice to see that so many people have turned up this year – the interest is incredible. I'd say there are about four times as many stalls and 10 times as many people.

"People want to find out more about it and I think because people are being serious they [the government] are going to have to start doing something about it."

Among those taking part where the Woodland Trust, Whittington Primary School who are in the middle of creating their own plastic bottle greenhouse, Shropshire Wildlife Trust, and Love Your Magnificent Severn.
