A COMMUNITY kitchen which uses recycled food for a those in need is celebrating after it was granted Community Interest Company (CIC) status.

Os Nosh, based in Holy Trinity Church in Roft Street, feeds people once a week and has a simple mission: to cook free or pay as you feel community meals for everyone who is hungry, struggling or just in need of some company.

Last week, the company – owned and managed by brothers Tom and Ben Wilson – had the CIC status confirmed and Tom admitted they were looking forward to putting it to good use in the coming months.

"We've had the Community Interest Company status confirmed now," he said.

"The process took about six weeks as we employed someone who knows how to write the applications and they were able to do it so it didn't take any time and effort with us.

"Doing that way means we have been able to carry on with our work.

"Our primary motivation for doing it was to be able to approach supermarkets because even though we've been established for a year, a lot of the supermarkets wouldn't work with us unless we got that status, or a charity number.

"Even now in the short while we've had it, we've had so much off the supermarkets already and we might even be able to do another day.

"Having the number helps because you have to have it if you want to have that legitimacy or credibility.

"But now that's in place, we will be expanding the work we do at Os Nosh.

"We're trying to get more drivers so that we can drop stuff off."

OS Nosh run their sessions once a week from 12.30pm and all are welcome to attend.
