WHITCHURCH based auctioneers Trevanion and Dean offered a fascinating collection of 18th century portrait miniatures in their June fine art and antiques auction.

The collection of seventeen miniatures had bidders from across the globe battling it out over telephone and online, eventually selling for a total over £9,000.

One of the most sought-after examples depicted Daniel Furzer, his son John Furzer and HMS Dover.

Furzer acted as Naval Surveyor to William III and served in action against the Spanish off Cape St Vincent on December 9, 1719.

Also included in the firms June auction was a carefully curated collection of Provincial oak furniture and vernacular treen from a perfectly preserved farmhouse in depths of North Wales.

Auctioneer Christina Trevanion commented: “The spectacular results for each portrait miniature confirms the markets demand of historically important provenance which documents our history."

The 152 lots formed part of a sale consisting of more than 900 lots and the unprecedented popularity of the contents was reiterated by the revitalising results of the 16th century and later furniture.

Highlights from Clynog Farmhouse include a 19th century treen sycamore settling bowl, which sold for £1,600, a George III Welsh oak housekeepers, selling for £1,800 and a George III Carmarthenshire oak settle which sold for £1,700.
