This is a fantastic day out as the walk is longer than usual a packed lunch will give you a chance to stop and enjoy the views. We have

described it as challenging purely because of the distance.

There are no hills and paths are mostly flat starting with a quiet road and then forest tracks followed by grassy paths as you leave the forest behind.

The walk mostly follows a stunning reservoir and takes in some heathland where the colours are splendid during the summer months.

There may be sheep grazing in parts of this walk.

How to get there: From Denbigh take the A543 signed Pentrefoelas. Follow the brown signs to Llyn Brenig Visitor Centre.

Grid reference: SJ 1983574 Post code - LL21 9TT

Parking: Free in car park

Facilities: Toilets and refreshments at the Visitor Centre. Dogs are not allowed in. Your dog will find lots of water along the way.

You will need: leads, dog bags

The Walk

1. Keep your dog on a lead to begin with. From the car park with the children's play area to your right follow the road with a sharp bend to the left at the marina. Stay on the road having the lake on your right. As you pass through a gate entrance where the road bends

sharply to the left keep going straight ahead, staying with the lake, through the gate.

It is quieter here and you may want to let your dog off the lead, but keep looking and listening for cars, so that you can keep your dog safe. You will see lots of picnic benches along this road.

Keep following the road beside the lake, ignoring a track to the left near a stone bench. The road will take you away from the lake for a short while. Ignore a second path to the left.

2. Look out for a turning right, a little further on at a crossroad and head for the stone bridge. Stay on this track with a slight incline.

Once over the bridge keep going straight on at the crossroads. Go through a gate and then put your dog on a lead, as there is a busy road ahead and sheep. The path may get a little muddy here as water trickles across your path. The path runs adjacent to a road for a short time.

Your dog can get a drink here. If you are lucky to find the heather in flower it is stunning to be amongst.

You will soon find that you have left the road behind. You pass a small parking area and will see beautiful views ahead of the Clwydian Range. You pass a small pond on your right. Stay with the fenceline and the road will come back into view for a short distance.

Keep walking straight on ignoring the path veering to your right, you will pass a copse of trees on your right. You will now have a bank on

your left and the road is above you. You will also be able to see the lake in the distance to your right. You will pass a water inlet that goes

under the road on your right. The path can get a little muddy here. Your dog can cool off and get a drink. You will find that the road will disappear again. There are great views of the lake in the distance and this is a good place to stop and rest your dog here.

Keep going forward with a woodland on your left. Once again you will lose the view of the lake as you dip up and down the small hills.

3. The path joins a quiet road again, where you need to turn right and downhill. You will pass another car park with an old disused toilet block. Go through the gate to the left of the car park. You are now back near the lake. The path then leaves the lake for a while. Ignore the path to the left. You will be amongst the heather with beautiful lake views and trickling streams. The path then goes towards a forest, through a gate beside a cattle grid. You will pass a quarried area where stone has been taken to surface the paths. You will now be in the

forest.

When you leave the forest you will see the damn of the reservoir ahead. Go through the gate at the cattle grid. Keep going along the track,

ignore the left turn and pass through another gate just before the damn.

4. Take the path across the damn, with the valley to the left and the lake to your right. At the end of this path go right and along the track

with the fence line to your left. Go through a gate to the car park and the Visitor Centre.
