As WELL as celebrating 25 years since its establishment, Chirk Youth Football Club has had more reasons to be happy after a successful season.

Another good year on the pitch for the The youngsters saw them hauled three trophies, and performed well throughout tournaments across the year.

The club provides football training and competitive fixtures for more than 10 age groups which are filled by more than 180 players across the club.

Club chairman Mark Evans, believes the club provides a vital service to youngsters in the community.

“It gives the kids something to do rather than sitting in,” he said.

“Especially when they get to secondary school age, a lot of their mates start wanting to get involved and play for the same team which is great. On top of that, it’s great fun for them to play with their friends especially at the youth level of football.

“Next season we have another age group coming in the form of an under-sevens group, so we’ll have even more players once again.”

This season, the U8s side won a cup at the Airbus Tournament, while the U11s picked up the plate at the same tournament, and the U14s secured a league and cup double.

Mark believes the success across the board can encourage players to strive for a place in the men’s team when they reach the age of adult football.

He said: “Chirk has, and always has had, a very successful men’s team, they won the cup a few years back. This gives lads of that age something to aim towards after youth football finishes for them.

“It’s great from a young age, it’s encouraging for the kids and promotes teambuilding and confidence. They are taught to respect one another and respect the coaches who train them.”

The club chairman added that the well-run nature of the club is testament to the effort given by the voluntary workers and coaches who give up their time to help the children. He said: “We have more than 20 coaches across the board, they work tremendously hard.

“They have shown a lot of dedication over the years in making sure the players are well looked after.

“The Chirk AAAs staff and ground staff are amazing too, we’re lucky to be allowed to use the facilities there.

“We want to do our bit to upgrade the facilities to mark our 25th year, this will be done through fundraising.”
