A GROUP of artists have shown off Wem in a new light by exhibiting their watercolours in Wem Town Hall.

Members of Ellesmere Watercolourists are the ones behind the paintings and the Ellesmere-based art group have painted more than 40 works, putting Wem into a new perspective.

The exhibition, called ‘Transforming Wem,’ shows the town’s streets and buildings in a different light with artists experimenting in the use of colour and free techniques.

Group tutor Trudi Graham explained: “The everyday is seen in a new light. The mundane, a familiar building, becomes more exotic. Quirky dramatic and beautiful edifices are uncovered in these familiar Shropshire streets."

She added the group had exhibited widely across Shropshire over the past six years, and its work experimented with watercolour techniques such as the use of Quink ink with watercolour and Chinese brush work through a range of subjects.

The paintings will be on display at the Town Hall until June 27.
