GUESTS at a gin and tonic evening in Llanfyllin raised a glass – and nearly £400 – for a cancer charity this month.

Heather Hodgson, whose best friend Julie died just three months after being diagnosed with bowel cancer in 2017, organised the Gin and Tonic Tasting with Cake at Llansantffraid Village Hall on Friday, May 10.

Chris Toller, a director of Henstone Distillery, gave a talk about the background of the business in Oswestry and then, with the help of his wife and co-director, Alex, guided the 33 attendees through their three different gins and Nonpareil apple brandy.

Ten raffle prizes donated by local businesses were snapped up while everyone enjoyed a G&T together with a slice of cake or two, made mainly by Heather.

Organiser Heather said she was “pleased” to report that she has been able to hand over £393.40 from the evening to Bowel Cancer UK.

The charity funds targeted research, expert information and support to patients and their families, and educates the public and professionals about the disease and campaign for early diagnosis and access to best treatment.
